John Fout

 

“Reading from the Same Book: the American and Nazi Military Justice Systems and the Persecution of Homosexuals in World War II”

 

John Fout was a professor of History at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York. He received his B.A. in 1963 and M.A. in 1964 from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and his Ph.D. in 1969 from the University of Minnesota. Professor Fout was a Fulbright Scholar in Heidelberg, Germany from 1964 to 1965 and a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Homosexuality and the Journal of Men’s Studies. He has authored numerous scholarly articles, including “The Moral Purity Movement in Wilhelmine Germany and the Attempt to Regulate Male Behavior” (1992), and is the founding editor of the Journal of the History of Sexuality, published quarterly by the University of Texas Press. He was the editor of the Chicago Series on Sexuality, History and Society, which is published by the University of Chicago Press.
