Ayesha Kajee is the executive director of the Freedom of Expression Institute. She is also a reseacher at the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA) — and is also a board member of Transparency International’s South Africa chapter. She is especially interested in corruption issues and in innovative initiatives that drive economic growth. Ms. Kajee was involved in an intensive research study on governance commissioned by the Malawi government during 2004, and similar studies on Mauritius and Ghana during 2005. She has also participated in events organised by the World Bank, the UN Economic Commission for Africa, IDEA International and the Development Policy Management Forum. Previously, Ms. Kajee worked as an educator in South Africa, the United States and Britain. She was also the General Manager of a national youth-focused NGO for several years.
